Events were organized by AO Juaras Committee from all sections as part of our business activities for year 2010 on 25th June 2010. The objective is to enhance grooming for the frontliners and to create awareness on healthy lifestyle within the Airport Operations community.

Airport Operations - 3.jpg Airport Operations - 4.jpg

We had a very interesting session, a talk by our cabin crew on grooming issues which is useful for us as a guideline knowing their proven achievement. We also provided health screening, make-up & hair consultations, eyes test, healthy food supplements, slimming product, manicure & pedicure during the event. We also had very entertaining sessions with the fitness facilitator engaging us with both physical and mental activities.

By: Armand & Daphne Ratilal (Malaysia Airlines Customer)

I'm writing to thank you for your help in tracing back my luggage.  My wife and I travelled on Jetstar flight 3K 685 on 28 June 2010, and 1 of my 3 pieces of luggage was missing.  After reporting it, I received at least 1 phone call a day letting me know that you are still looking for the luggage.  Even though there was no update, I am very grateful to hear that we have not been forgotten and that you are continuing to search for it.

Eventually my luggage was found after 3 days (got missent to Hong Kong), and I was very grateful to get it back.  Thank you very much for all the phone calls each day updating us with the progress and for finding it in another country for us.

Kind Regards,
ARMAND & DAPHNE RATILAL

Walk Down Memory Lane to the Old Subang Kuala Lumpur International Airport also known as Sultan Abdul Aziz Shah Airport, Subang. During my younger days, when my Dad first started working with Malaysia Airlines, he used to bring me to Subang Airport to view the magnificent aircrafts and during those days, MAS had many Boeing 747-200, Boeing 737-200, Airbus A300's and DC-10-30's.

There was also a time when British Airways Concorde landed at Subang Airport and it was parked at the Terminal 2 apron. If I remember correctly, MAS aircraft in the days... the first class seats were red in color and the surrounding walls in the aircraft were filled with flower designs.

Anyway... I thought it would be good to have this on Blog for our old Subang Airport and where we were back then...

Its good to remember where we come from and how time has changed the way we look today as compared to the days behind us, and how the changes have evolved since…

Below are some pictures of the OLD Malaysian Airlines System aircraft (Red and White):

Tags: Airport, MH, Flights, Europe, Rome

By: Raffaella Forchino (Malaysia Airlines, Rome)

I took sometime last night to draft this story happened at Fiumicino Airport, Rome, Italy during the volcano emergency. As you may know, due to heavy air traffic in Rome caused by the closure of most of European hub, our MH15/18 April 2010 from FCO to KUL was cancelled. (Apparently, this information wasn’t properly spread out in the CRS).

On Sunday, 18th April I and other colleagues were assisting passengers at check in counters by telling them that MH15 was not operating that day but the day after, most of the passengers were just coming out with questions, with claim for refunds etc… Moreover, all ROM staff in oneMH was trying to give comfort to German passengers who just arrived early in the morning by 3 busses, due to Frankfurt airport closure.

During the volcano emergency, Rome was not only capital of a country (Italy) but was really “Caput mundi” (Capital of the world). Due to the fact that was the only airport open in the whole European hub. Passengers were reaching Rome by no matter means of transport. People were unite to reach a place where there could be, maybe a flight to somewhere… no matter if it was near or far or  their final destination, but most important for Non-Europeans was to leave the Continent.

People arrived in Rome by bus, by train, by rented cars, by mobil – home and all of them had an important reason to reach a place by plane. For a moment I had a strange feeling that there was a sort of war out there… which people were trying to escape... Passengers were everywhere, just asking for seats …extra seats to somewhere… There was a family who really moved me, who were asking for seats on the first available flight to KL and then to Auckland.

On that Sunday 18th, MH15 was cancelled, but there was an aircraft here which was diverted from Frankfurt 2 days before, and which was dedicated to all German passengers who came to FCO by ground transportation. No seats were available for any other passengers! But that family, composed by father and 2 children of 9 and 7 yrs had driven throughout England, France, Switzerland, North Italy and then Rome. To catch a flight to go back to Auckland where they lived and where their mother could take the last available flight from Heathrow by chance, before the closure.

When, being sorry, I told the father, that the flight that was boarding now was a 3 days delayed flight, not the one he was supposed to take. He nearly started to cry…The children as well, were so sad no to be able to leave …after having spent almost 3 days in a rented car, having spent so much money.

To reach a possible getaway for the journey back… I took it as a compassionate case, so I tried to speak to our Station Manager if only we could put them on board. There was the ticket, to be re-issued, as the original itinerary was LON-KUL instead of ROM-KUL…

I kindly asked the help of my reservation department, I went back to the father and told them that he was on that flight leaving in less than one hour… He was so grateful to me, he nearly cried once again… The children thanked me as well lots of times…What made me really move was the little girl who came back to me, once again to hug me, crying and thanking me lot…the father came again back to me saying that I was an angel…

I think that what I have done is just part of hospitality, not only Malaysian Hospitality…but even Italian Hospitality…world wide hospitality… Then, in a little corner of the airport I started crying, being happy for having helped somebody when a nice lady passenger came near me, gave me a handkerchief saying: “It must have been a tough experience…” And I said: “Tough, stressing, but so human…”

This article by Syefri Zulkefli extracted from http://chiefchapree.blogspot.com/2010/01/one-fine-saturday-at-mas-touchdown.html

Ahhh...Subang's Terminal 3. Now with a new name, SKYPARK Terminal, I used to went through this place a lot of time during school holidays back when I studied in Kota Bharu. This was before everything shifted to KLIA...so yeah, haven't been there for quite a while.

One fine Saturday at MAS Touchdown - 1.png

Three pesawat with Pesawat's autograph. Berapa banyak pesawat daaaaa...

Since I pretty much go to airport only to fly in and fly out (haven't got the chance to do in quite a long while); or to pickup/greet people, I felt a bit weird coming to airport for casual visit. But it was all good, because we were there for MAS Touchdown @ SKYPARK Terminal event. Story continues after the jump.

So, the event not only about Malaysia Airlines and Firefly (FOKKKKERRR...oh wait, they already replaced them with ATR planes XD) but also, about charity, music and shopping! Ok la, I'm not really in a position to shop but then I did managed to find two cool deal at Bijou Bazzar @ MAS Touchdown:

One fine Saturday at MAS Touchdown - 2.png

Can't believe a shoe this fine is only RM 20. But then, it's too small. RAGE ensures.

A pair of Onitsuka Tiger for only RM 20 - DUA PULUH RINGGIT SAJA WEH, MANA NAK DAPAT LAGI? The problem is...the size. It's in size 4, FFFFFFFUUUUUUU, TIM KAAAAIIII? T_T

One fine Saturday at MAS Touchdown - 3.png

Yummy, almost lickable.

Crafted In Japan '62 Fender Stratocaster for RM 2.5k. In general, I'm not a fan of that bridge pickup mod, but for 2.5k, it ain't bad a deal. Plus, since the other pups are Noiseless, guess what we got here is kinda nice..

You can pay by installment somemore. So, if you interested, you can give a call to Jeffery (017-6951105). He also got a Epiphone Goth Series Flying V - in full stock condition, no mod - and couple of small amps for sale.

Oh oh oh, excuse my temporaral geek-out just out. But really, outside from these two, nothing else caught my eyes. From my observation, most of the items was for the fairer sex; even if they were for male, they were too small for me. So, the missus and her friend was having a very great time browsing through the variety of selection.

One fine Saturday at MAS Touchdown - 4.png

The sweet Liyana. *wheeeee*

As for music, they have couple of independent artists performing from morning till the end of the event. Since we arrived quite late, we didn't get to catch much music (so sorry George, we want to see you perform so bad >.<). We were only able to catch Liyana Fizi and Pesawat.

These two band already pretty well known and as usual, their performance were top notch. I don't have any need to add more awesome stories about them, you just got to see them yourselves.

One fine Saturday at MAS Touchdown - 5.png

Pesawat with one of the airplane model's bidder.

So far, I've mentioned about shopping and music...so, where's the charity part? According to the event's official site (http://www.malaysiaairlinesblog.com/), proceeds from this event - - sales, auctions and donations - goes to Women’s Aid Organisation, Bandar Harapan Organic Farm and Food Bank for the Poor. It is just too bad that I didn't get to contribute more than my morale support...I'm just too poor to bid for the cheap airline tickets (return tickets to Melbourne for only RM 2000, say what?) or that Airbus A380-800 airplane models! :(

All in all, it was a pretty good day for all of us. Kudos to Malaysia Airlines for having the event although it was a little bit out of place. Maybe they should do it during MAS Travel Fair or their other promotional event...wait, is (physical) MAS Travel Fair still around? Damn, it has been that long. I really really need to fly again.

Hi hi folks! How are we feeling this 9th day of January in 2010?

Today, we've just completed a special event titled the Music Charity Friends - MAS Touchdown @ Skypark Terminal SAAS Airport where 10% of sales of items (some offer 100% of proceeds) would go towards benefiting the Food Bank for the Poor, Women's AID Organisation and Bandar Harapan Organic Farm.

It was real nice to see CEO/MD of Malaysia Airlines Tengku Dato' Azmil as well as Skypark Terminal SAAS Airport Chief Operating Officer, Mr. Jana drop by the stalls and watch the bands perform.

Charity Indie Gig - 1.png

All of Pesawat band members autographed this model airplane and put it up for auction! Did YOU make a bid?

How did this all begin? Well, let's say it was just an idea when Jasmine Low, Founder of Doppelganger Open Mic and MD of Go International Group visited Sydney, Australia in March 2009. As a student, she was an active member and VP of SUAMS - the Malaysian students association. She contacted Jenny, the current President of Malaysia Fest and they met up. Jasmine was interested to see if she could bring some bands over to Sydney to perform. M-Fest on the other hand, was looking for talents to perform at their annual show at Darling Harbour in September. Come 27 September 2009, Malaysia Airlines flew indie band One Buck Short and singer songwriters Reza Salleh, Liyana Fizi and Rashdan Harith to Sydney to perform not only at M-Fest, which attracted over 5,000 people at the beautiful Darling Harbour Tumbalong Park, but also at Doppelganger Open Mic's first Aussie gig held at TASTE SURRY HILLS.

Liyana Fizi @ M-Fest, Darling Harbour in September 2009. It was FREEZING that day, 11 degrees Celcius and I'm sure her fingers were shivering as she strummed her guitar!

So when the chance came along to work together again, the artistes were invited to perform at MAS Touchdown and all said YES! One Buck Short and Reza Salleh were sadly not able to make it due to prior commitments. But instead, Pesawat and Najwa Mahiaddin, as well as George Wong, Ariff Abu Bakar, Daymien (you catch him busking around KL sometimes) and super energetic band, An Honest Mistake all made it for the one day show.

MAS employees jumble sale booth, MAS Wings, Firefly, Flymas.mobi, Saya Nak Cuti with Astro, Women's AID Organisation, Bandar Harapan Organic Farm, Foodbank for the Poor, Doppelganger's Indie Scene Cafe stall and about 30 Bijou Bazaar fashion vendors made their presence felt.

The Guitar Hero setup at Doppelganger's Indie Scene Cafe stall was a popular hit! So were the Doppelganger Lucky Dolls - one of our new products rolled out for 2010. In view of Saturdays being NO PLASTIC BAG day in the state of Selangor, we also invited our friends from Tiny Tapir to bring in their recycle RUME Bags as well as foldable drinking bottles.

Finally, courtesy of CANON Malaysia, two A1100 digital cameras worth RM700 each were put up as the main prize for the MAS Touchdown Mass Blogger Review Competition. With the deadline extended to Monday 12pm, if you still have not blogged about the event, it's not too late. Want to read blog entries submitted for the competition? As I entered the main lobby of the Skypark Terminal in Subang, the sound of what, surely, must have been live music was in the air.

Pic 2:Ruby, Faizul Yusof, Maryam Samirah.

Live music? An airport lobby? I thought this was unreal, but upon entering further, all were revealed.

Yes I was at the MAS Touchdown @ Skypark Terminal SAAS Airport indie concert & charity bazaar, organised in collaboration with Malaysian Airlines (MAS), GO International together with Bijou Bazaar, where 10% of sales went for the benefit of Womens' Aid Organisation, Bandar Harapan Organic Farm and Food Bank for the Poor. The event was held on 9th January, Saturday, 11am till 8pm.

Pic 3:Crowd enjoying performance on stage.

Nonetheless, I was intrigued by the concept of a bazaar itself. Now, I must admit my image of a bazaar is more along the line of the Grand Bazaar in Istanbul. Memories of this bazaar is still fresh in my mind, the aromatic smell of Turkish coffee, the welcome sight of a hot glass of apple tea, the friendly haggling, the rows and rows of traditional wares of all manner, the ever presence of touts with their deal of the century (!)….aaahhh

I was intrigued with the bazaar concept as presented in the Skypark itself and found myself being drawn to its very being, itself. Whilst the Bijou Bazaar is totally different, of course, from its more illustrious counterpart, it points to an exciting concept in shopping and the potential this brings with it.

Pic 7:Firefly participated with interesting travel offers & packages within Asean destinations.

Being an avid window shopaholic, the bazaar gave me the opportunity to browse in comfort and in an atmosphere that is addictive really.

DSC02955.jpg

Pic 8:Astro had a stall & they were active in inviting guests to participate in an essay competition to win free tickets abroad, where the winner will be the guest star of their travel show. Great ain't it?

The music and live show of all kinds in the background helped in producing a shopping buzz that was fun.

DSC02957.jpg

Pic 9:Liyana Fizi & team, performing.

The fact that the stalls were basically practically owned and manned by youths is also encouraging. As I browsed the various items on sale, I could not help thinking...how many potential Jimmy Choo, Anna Sui or even Marc Jacobs is there amongst these enthusiastic and talented kids?

Hmm, that blouse is kind of interesting, ahh I just need that top and what about that skirt! Ha ha ha!

The number of stalls were limited due to space, of course, but all the elements in making a bazaar successful were there... the noise, the haggling, the entertainment. Food and drinks were supported by the various outlets in the terminal itself. In fact, the only thing missing were the touts but I can live with that!

DSC02972.jpg

Pic 10:For those who needed their usual Latte fix, don't worry, ahh..there's Starbucks to the rescue!

DSC02969.jpg

Pic 11:Crowd enjoying another performance.

Now to mix bazaar activities with singer song artistes from the local indie music, is such an excellent idea. How wonderful is that to shop & yet being entertained all at the same time? Cool ain't it?

Pic 15:Ruby, Liyana Fizi (singer).

Yes the the crowd was entertained by talented, up & coming artistes such as Najwa, Ady Suwardy, Liyana Fizi & Pesawat, performing great numbers on stage.

There were also magicians in Shah & Anuar, intriguing the crowd, with their dexterity, yeah, our future David Blaine! (please view video uploaded below of Shah's magic fun).

DSC02961.jpg

Pic 16:Shah psyching us for his next magic number. Shazzzam!

Air ticket auctions were held, where ten tickets were up for grabs by the highest bidder to interesting destinations like Bali, Bangkok, Phuket, Melbourne and more.

With a great number of young people, if would not do without some current interest right? Yes you guessed it, there was also a stall where they can indulge in their favourite Guitar Hero activity...he he. Super.

DSC02973.jpg

Pic 17:Guitar Hero stall (can you see the guitars, far across?) & Go International stall (the event management team of this do).

When I arrived, I was told the CEO/MD of Malaysia Airlines Tengku Dato' Azmil just made a cute 'KISS' (keep it sweet & simple) speech. I always love short speeches. That's the way to go.

DSC02963.jpg

Pic 18:MASwings was there too, continuing with their charity work.

Kudos to Malaysian Airlines and Go International for the idea in holding the event and putting to good use as well as maximising the Skypark Terminal’s potential. Congratulations too to Bijou Bazaar for organising the bazaar and hopefully more is to come.

It was certainly great fun!

See you guys there!

When was the last time you ventured to this part of Subang, where all the airport here used to be the main airport for all flights in and out (and around) Malaysia?

I bet the last time you came here, if it were within the past 5 – 6 years, you either came to get your passport done at the Immigration, or had excellent seafood at Lala Chong OR western at Mama Chop, Papa Grill, situated across the road from here.

The Skypark Terminal, once known as Terminal 3, has now evolved from a ghost town of Domestic Flights to a mini shopping paradise of sorts. Kudos to MAS for the facelift and makeover!

You may be wondering what I am doing here. No, I am not taking any flights, I ain’t going anywhere for now.

I am here for the MAS Touchdown at Skypark Terminal event, where great performers the Rashdan Harith Band, Liyana Fizi, Najwa Mahiaddin, Ady Suwardy and Pesawat were scheduled to play. Jasmine from GO also invited George Wong, Ariff Abu Bakar, Daymien and An Honest Mistake (woohoow!) to entertain the crowd for the Doppelganger open-mic session.

Imagine my surprise when I walked in here to find the whole place completely abuzz with activity! There was the music, and the bazaar going on and I bumped into 4 ex-classmates as well  It was a nice surprise to see you guys again, Sharifah, Lenny and Nadiah.

Pic1.jpg

I also joined a Blogger competition that allows me to talk about my experience here. Here it is, my personal account.

Pic2.jpg

Pic3.jpg

Independent boutiques, online sellers and individuals were invited to sell they’re goods, and partial proceeds were pledged towards charity.

The event is dedicated to a few charity organisations, namely WAO (Women’s Aid Organisation), Food Band and Bandar Harapan.

Pic4.jpg

Pic5.jpg

WAO had a booth to inform the passers-by on the importance to protect women and children against violence. Here they have set up posters and standees to teach the public on gender equality, and how to say no to violence. They also had a puzzle competitions where people were required to piece the puzzle together in the best and fastest time to stand a chance to win WAO merchandise.

There was also a Free Game Zone set up where the public was invited to play Guitar Hero/Rock Band for free, but were encouraged to leave a donation of any amount in the glass container set up next to the console.

I managed to meet a few of the performing artistes here as well:

Here are some performance photos taken with my phone of An Honest Mistake and Rashdan Harith Band:

Pic17.jpg

Pesawat and ReaXions, a MAS in-house band, WOW

Did I mention earlier, 100% proceeds from today goes to charity?

Besides the entertainment and bazaar and this competition, there was also an auction of flight tickets to holiday destinations like Langkawi and Bangkok, starting as low as RM50.

Pic18.jpg

Do you even know that MAS has held the award for the WORLD’S BEST CABIN STAFF’ for 6 years? I had a chance to speak with some on-ground staff, ticketing people, security guards and a few stewardasses, and they really are really, really nice!

Pic19.jpg

Also met Jasmine, the superwoman behind GO, Doppelganger and Indie Youth Fest.

Unfortunately I cannot stay till the end as I am due for another competition happening at One Utama. As I end this entry and hope for a solid chance to win one of the two cameras, here’s wishing all the other contestants, luck. (Haha, not really!)

Pic20.jpg

Pic21.jpg

Have a heart. If you’re around the area, come join in the fun and contribute to charity, the event runs till 8 pm tonight!

We have extracted this blog story from Bijou Bazaar Blogspot @ http://bijoubazaar.blogspot.com

untitled2.jpg

SAAS Airport stands for Sultan Abdul Aziz Shah Airport or the airport we fondly remember as Subang Airport. So, obviously, it's in Subang.

Yup! We're aware that most of you were in your primary school when we last used SAAS Airport as Kuala Lumpur's International Airport, but the last time I flew out of SAAS Airport was to do my A Levels and when I came home with a degree, it was through KLIA.

Now, now ... just put away those calculators ... am not very young, I admit. ;o)

Somehow, I vividly remember that very flight out of SAAS Airport. It was a midnight flight + I was in the Terminal chatting with a friend from secondary school, Hefle, and a childhood friend whom I used to go camping with, Ahmad - you would now know him as Altimet, and their family.

Why that particular time?

I was playing with a trolley filled with our cabin bags + chatting at the Terminal concourse, when I fell off the trolley + it flipped with a loud crash. When I look up, I saw Ahmad staring at me in horror, I had to explain to him that girls fall down too. After which the three of us went running off as we were late for boarding.

Who would forget such incident right?

Well, that night marked a new chapter in our life as well.

Anyways, it's tomorrow y'all!
