So after lunch we headed back on the road to our next destination – Apollo Bay, Victoria.

From where we left off, it took us another 4-5 hours of driving before we reach Apollo Bay. Reason behind this was we made pretty much plenty of stops at scenic spots along Great Ocean Road.
Our next stop was Hutt Gully, a scenic spot...

And off we continued to our destination, however while driving we came upon a sign that says turn left to “Lighthouse” and so we went deep into the woods (forest) areas. Well you might think why drive into the woods to get to a lighthouse? Well the lighthouse is located somewhere along the coast and since we were already in the forest areas we needed to drive to the coast and it has to go through the forest…and although it took us nearly 30 minutes to reach our destination, it was definitely worth it. You can breath the fresh green air surrounding you and the whole area just takes you’re breath away... just like that!

We had a wonderful time there and we decided there’s much more to see so... off we left and continue on to our destination. While walking back to our car, I spotted this nice area …

And the surrounding light house area looks like this…

Off we left … time seems to have pass quickly while we were driving to Apollo Bay! But the good part here was the weather was very good and driving long distances in great weather never gets tired. Unlike when driving back in Malaysia, an hour journey seems like forever.

And by the time we knew it... we were there! Voila!

Check in was brief and because we paid for the accommodation online so it was just key collection... and WOW the cottages were more like homes … beautiful homes with beautiful gardens and view! Check it out…

The fireplace ....keeps warm during the cold days.

The Kitchen.

The view from the cottage backyard... more like front yard.

Our Cottage!
The Cottage is just simply amazing... no words can describe how amazing this place really is!
And after that we just took a walk around the surrounding beaches and found a nice sweet spot called Marengo Beach...

and while we were exploring the area, we found out that the entire area is also known as the Great Ocean Walk...

and some more pics of our little cottage …

Ducks swimming in the lakeside.

Side view of the cottage.

Front view (Camry in Blue is our rented car)
Later in the day, we decided to take a drive around Apollo Bay and while driving we caught ourselves looking at what seems to be a Koala Bear hugging itself on the tree...

Then we continue driving and reach a place called Castle Cove. It’s another scenic spots with a different view...

And like many other scenic spots, each has its natural beauty...

the locals doing community service...

Beautiful Landscapes
And whilst heading towards Port Campbell, a place further away from Apollo Bay... we came across an exceptionally and different kind of gas station & snack out joint. Have a look:

The beautiful part about driving in Australia is being able to see the beautiful scenery Australia has to offer and also being able to breathe the fresh air and feel the cool winds on your skin. Remember the air in the city maybe nice, but the air on the out skirts is even better!

Green Green Grass...
and check out the photographer in action...

More beautiful scenery shots (all shots taken using Canon DSLR):

The above picture is where we were suppose to have our lunch but turns out we had to drive someplace else to find food (where in my cosmic brain I was only thinking about fuuuddd “food”) Its a restaurant without any servings and people.
As we drove, we took our very important stop in our destination leg which is The Twelve Apostles...

Here’s a map of where we are and where we live earlier and finally how far it is from Melbourne, Victoria:

Port Campbell
And our next destination is Loch & Gorge, another historical scenic spot...

and this is Loch and Gorge …

and for some historical lessons into why this place has a name and history to it. Read it “Two Survivors”:

Two Survivors
** If you can’t read the words in the picture, just Google it out or email me at wilcwo2003@gmail.com and I will send you the original image file.
and now... the interesting part of my agenda is driving into Port Campbell town and having a good meal... “Food”

12 Rocks Bar & Restaurant

Time Refresh and Let the good times roll...

One of the best coffee’s around!!!

Steak and Ham Cheese Burger (Fresh Meat) After that meal we were on our way back to Melbourne, Victoria which will continue in Part 3 … |

Walk Down Memory Lane to the Old Subang Kuala Lumpur International Airport also known as Sultan Abdul Aziz Shah Airport, Subang. During my younger days, when my Dad first started working with Malaysia Airlines, he used to bring me to Subang Airport to view the magnificent aircrafts and during those days, MAS had many Boeing 747-200, Boeing 737-200, Airbus A300's and DC-10-30's.
There was also a time when British Airways Concorde landed at Subang Airport and it was parked at the Terminal 2 apron. If I remember correctly, MAS aircraft in the days... the first class seats were red in color and the surrounding walls in the aircraft were filled with flower designs.
Anyway... I thought it would be good to have this on Blog for our old Subang Airport and where we were back then...
Its good to remember where we come from and how time has changed the way we look today as compared to the days behind us, and how the changes have evolved since…
Below are some pictures of the OLD Malaysian Airlines System aircraft (Red and White):

The Old MAS Airbus A300-200 (Captured in Hong Kong)

The Old MAS Boeing 747-236B 9M-MHI (powered by Rolls Royce) – taking off from LAX

Old MAS DC-10-30 (9M-MAT) – Captured in Hong Kong Kai Tak Airport

As time went by, the OLD MAS made a new change of colors resembling the Malaysian Flag (Red and Blue) as shown above on the Boeing 737-200 Series.
Images of the Old Subang Kuala Lumpur International Airport (WMSA) which has been demolished now:

The Old Subang Kuala Lumpur International Airport also Main Hub to Malaysian Airlines System or MH

The Old Subang Kuala Lumpur International Airport – Departure Hall (Terminal 1)

The Old First Class on the MAS Boeing 747-300/400 Series

The Newer First Class Seats on the Boeing 747-400 Series

The Newer First Class Seats on the Boeing 777-200 Series
And all the above First Class Seats have been replaced with the Newly Designed & Current Seats:

The All New First Class Seats, and only available on the Boeing 747-400 Series. Although it has been introduced into the Boeing 747-400 Series since 2005 and back then only the premier 9M-MPB and 9M-MPD were the only ones that were fitted with the new seating as the 2 Boeing 747-400 were MH’s new Hibiscus Design Aircraft. (Seen Below)

These 2 aircrafts were later then stripped of its new paint jobs during MH’s worst Financial Times. They were never introduced back and they are currently using the standard design.

Also, the Business Class Seats were replaced with newly design seats that were introduced in the Newly Design Heliconia Boeing 777-200 Series and the only Aircraft available was the 9M-MRD also known as Freedom of Space!

The New Business Class Seats are currently being used in all Boeing 747-400's and Boeing 777-200's. And the current configuration for the Boeing 777-200 does not include First Class anymore and it’s only available as Business Class

And last, but not least … a view of Sultan Abdul Aziz Shah Airport – Subang Kuala Lumpur’s Runway 15 Aerial View & Exit Passport Chop at SZB.

Our Journey to Magnificent…

~With the Best Airline~

This blog entry is specially dedicated to Malaysia Airlines.
About 10 years ago, back then MH was only known as Malaysia Airlines. My family and I made a trip to Cape Town under Staff Travel – FOC Tickets & we travelled First Class! We booked our tickets and got a contact from within Malaysia Airlines back then who is a South African resident and tour guide for Malaysia Airlines Staff.
And we paid roughly RM 800 per pax for a total 8D7N in Cape Town with accommodation, food, drinks, transportation to & from hotel daily to wherever the guide takes us. It was an experience NOT forgotten!!
In Cape Town, one can view two different oceans at the same time just by standing at Cape Point, in South Africa they call it the blend of two oceans (Atlantic Ocean & Indian Ocean) – see image below.

That’s not all … we went to one of Earth’s greatest heaven on earth – Cape Point – Top Point where the fog and strong winds come blowing at your face & during the cold seasons – Its something you just have to experience yourself to know what I mean by Heaven on Earth!

Ok, to get to Cape Point Top, one can hike up the hills or take a cable car ride which saves you time and energy. And it’s relatively cheap to get a ride up to the top.

One actually never wants to go down after going up, because the cool breeze just makes one get addicted and all stoned!
In Cape Town, one doesn’t only enjoy the natural beauty and scenery South Africa has to offer, one actually get’s the see and experience a whole new meaning of Marine Life. In Cape Whale Coast, one can view the magnificent whales during the whale seasons. and if you’re lucky, you might just get up close with one of them!

And it doesn’t end there... one actually gets to experience SEAFOOD in a whole different meaning! I mean, when you visit South Africa and Cape Town, one actually has seafood for lunch and dinner! And seriously... you will never enjoy seafood as you did South Africa once you get back to Malaysia! Hell the price is helluva cheap! (At least back then it was... ha-ha)

Ok... if you thought you had the best Seafood in the world; wait till you have the world’s best Ostrich Eggs and Meat! In South Africa, the famous dish is still the South African Ostrich Meats and Eggs cooked in a variety of styles. Ostrich meats are best eaten at the Ostrich Farms outside of Cape Town where live Ostrich’s are farmed, slaughtered and cooked to order for tourist and locals alike.

You can also get to sit on Ostrich’s for photo takings and take the challenge to see if the Ostrich Eggs are stronger than your weight. I personally stand on one and both Ostrich Eggs and at that time with a weight of 100KG!

Then after that you can have a taste of the eggs themselves. Be WARNED! The Eggs are not to be taken lightly! they are packed with Crabs and Energy. One egg can be eaten amongst 5 people or more depending on how much you can eat. But even then, you might want to avoid eating too much ostrich eggs …

Alright, so we have visited the marine life, view the best points in Cape Town, Enjoyed the seafood and ground food. What’s left? … Table Mountain, yes! the Major Highlights of Cape Town is the Table Mountain, a well known mountain that overlooks the entire city of Cape Town and surrounding areas. The only mountain to have a flat surface and accessible via a cableway transport or means of hiking to the top. Measured at 3,563 Feet high and its one of the nicest areas in Cape Town scenery.

(Lions Head, highest point of Table Mountain)
That’s about as much as I can recall from my trip to Cape Town, South Africa!
Last but not least, anyone who has thought or is thinking of making a trip there but isn’t sure if it’s the right choice? Hesitate no further! South Africa is the place you want to be at and there’s no better place to enjoy good food, good shopping in places like the Waterfront City (see image below) and total relaxation for couples and families alike!

Malaysia Airlines takes you and your family to Cape Town, South Africa via Johannesburg, South Africa. Call 1-300-88-3000 now and be there!
Have a pleasant flight with MH!

Impian ingin mengenali asal usul keturunan saya sebelah ibu terlaksana apabila diterbangkan ke Bandar Ho Chi Minh diatas tajaan MAS setelah memenangi Peraduan MAS! Saya Nak Cuti.

Selera kami sama. Kini saya mengerti kenapa saya suka makan banyak sayur mentah, rupa-rupa memang orang Vietnam suka diet sebegitu. Banyak pengaruh Vietnam dalam citarasa saya.
Memandangkan percutian saya bukan sekadar melawat sanak saudara, malah saya sempat melawat Museum Peninggalan Perang, Terowong Cu Chi dan menyusuri Delta Sungai Mekong. Apabila melawat Museum Peninggalan Perang Iansa sungguh menyentuh jiwa saya.

By: Aliff Ashari (Yogyakarta)
Aliff Ashari is one of our seven Saya Nak Cuti winners. In his blog story below, he shares his travel experience revisiting Yogyakarta and documenting the changes that have taken place since the earthquake.
Don’t miss to watch Aliff on Astro RIA Saya Nak Cuti tonight at 10 pm. If you missed tonight episode, you can view it at www.mastraveller.com/sayanakcuti

Bangunan musnah akibat gempa bumi

Must Eat Food’s:

Imperial Garden Hong Kong Dim Sum in Glen Waverly
20 August 2009
We left for KLIA in anticipation for our trip to Melbourne, Victoria. Upon arrival we checked in for our flight and headed to the satellite terminal where we boarded our flight to Melbourne at Gate C32.
The flight to Melbourne was awesome, the food on board the aircraft was exceptionally tasteful (MH has definitely done a fantastic job at making good food for its long haul journeys). I manage to sleep throughout the journey after dinner and woke up moments before landing into Melbourne Int’l airport.
Upon arrival, we collected our luggage’s and everything went swiftly as expected although the queue at the immigration counters were slightly long due flights from KUL, SIN which arrived at about the same time. After everything was done, we had to wait at the arrival hall as we had to collect our rental car. However not everything went as planned as our rental car plan sorta busted as they did not have the car we needed… So after checking at several rental agencies at the airport (which I had to go through the blazing cold winds and rain showers) in order to find the right car. But we managed to get ourselves a Toyota Camry 2.0 Blue from Europcar at a very cheap rate!!

Off we go!

driving into Melbourne City
After arrival, we headed straight into the city to meet my cousins where they have been there for a week already! After driving like 20 minutes into the city, we finally reached the Melbourne Central Station where we had our breakfast at one of the food court in Spencer St. Parking in Melbourne can be relatively cheap on the streets depending on the number of hours spent at that area. Some areas provide free parking for up to 30 minutes or 1 hour free car park. Some areas you will be required to pay for the parking of AUD$ 1-3 and you can only park a maximum of 2-3 hours at anytime. If you wish to continue parking you will be required to add money or move your vehicles away.

Parking is designated 1P, 2P, 3P which I believe means 1, 2, and 3 hours parking at any given time.
After breakfast, we headed to our hotel with my cousins to check in at our Hotel at Bayview Eden Hotel, Melbourne which happens to be Malaysia Airlines designated crew Hotel. We got airline rates which were awesome and the rooms were fantastic for the rates paid!

After checking in to the hotel and having a nice warm shower & cold shower since we were kind of tired and sleepy so the cold shower and the cold weather can wake a person up nicely. We headed to Mornington, Victoria which took about an hours drive south. The place is lovely, a small town with beautiful scenery and beaches that takes one breath away!

Couple of hours later we decided to have lunch at one of the Chinese Restaurants in Mornington, Victoria. I must say that it was probably the best chinese food I’ve had for a long time after all its Cantonese cooks.

All I can say is “It’s the Best!”
After a good meal, we decided to drive along the beaches around Mornington region and the views are great, but what makes the trip a memorable experience is the Cold Cold Winds that was probably the strongest I’ve encountered so far since it was in the mid-afternoon…

After that we just headed back to our hotel for another round of shower and to pick my mom up as she was resting after a tiring journey from KUL. We went into China town for our dinner and after that we just stroll around town before heading back to our hotel room. It was a goodnight …
Next day we woke up around 8.30am and checked out from our hotel and head towards to Apollo Bay, Victoria. Before that, we went into city to pick my cousins up from their apartment which they rented for an additional week and which we also rented for 3 nights of our additional stay after returning from Apollo Bay.
Off we went for our breakfast and straight to our destination. We drove along the Great Ocean Road (coastal HWY) which was great cause we could stop along for the scenery and the food too =D.
Along our way, we stopped at Geelong, Victoria. It was a beautiful place and we had a great time and a fantastic lunch together!

I know there are quite a lot of people out there who are anti-in flight meal. Well, to some extent it is understandable because they are not generally very tasty. But for me, I actually find it quite exciting. Perhaps because it incorporates two things I love - the aviation industry and food.

I've always wondered if Malaysia Airlines recycle (as in reuse) the boxes ? I'm sure it's not cheap so it will be quite wasting to throw away. At the same time, if they really do reuse it's quite disgusting also. :p

Nasi Lemak is definitely one of the most served food on board for Malaysia Airlines. Based on my experiences, any flights before 10 A.M you're sure to have Nasi Lemak. (and usually the other choice is fried bee hoon.)

The rice is a little too soft but taste wise, it is still edible.

With all the hype of being nice to the mother nature, MAS has join in the pact too! In some of their flights, they serve their meals in eco boxes like this.

You know, i've been flying MAS since I was seven years old (I'm 23 now *cough*). And while their food has improved a lot over the years, delicious was never the adjective to describe the food on board - albeit still tasting above average.

However, for once, I actually really thought the "chicken satay with peanut sauce and rice" was really nice. I finished it and almost asked for second servings. Haha. Kidding .. kidding. :P

I love fruit cakes but only home made ones. Commercialized ones tend to be too sweet or too dry. Surprisingly the one MAS was serving was almost on par with home made ones!

It actually takes a lot of courage to be photographing all these pictures on board. The passenger sitting beside me is always giving me weird stares! Heck, there's once this old men thought it was my first time taking the plane and actually taught me how to recline the seats and all. Geez.
I still have a few MAS in flight food review that is coming up! Divided them in two post cause I didn't want this post to be too lengthy. |

This blog story "From Our Guest" was picked up from: http://www.etravelblackboard.com/showarticle.asp?id=102978&nav=32
We thank our customer for this wonderful feedback.
Check-in and luggage allowance: Checking in 3 hours before the flight always ensures a quick and easy process. The attendant at the web check in counter processed my details in a professional but friendly manner, which I thought was a very nice start to my Malaysian Airlines experience. Only travelling for 4 days, I was well below the luggage allowance of 20kgs.
Lounge access: Even though I was flying economy, our group headed up by Malaysia Airlines and Tourism Malaysia had pre-organized lounge access in Sydney Airport. The well-sized lounge, now on the other side of the International Terminal is a good reprieve after the long walk. With a "noodle" menu to choose from, I opted for the traditional Vegetarian Laksa which was served fresh.
Seat/Cabin conditions: Malaysia Airline's Boeing 747-400 sees pitch of 34" and seat width 17", with the cabin laid out in 3-4-3 exception being the last three rows of 2-4-2.
Meal and snack service: Peanuts were the snack upon arrival, which was followed quickly by the dinner service. Since I opted for a vegetarian meal, I was served before my fellow passengers. The cous-cous salad with chickpeas was surprisingly very good, as was the vegetable lasagna, though ironically had cheese but for dessert, while everyone received cheese and crackers, I had fruit. We then all received ice cream bars. Before landing I was served a vegetarian roll, with a muesli bar.
Entertainment: Gone are the days of one large screen and thankfully, we can all welcome video-on-demand! The MH Entertainment Select is available on each seatback, and with its 6 inch screen, travellers can choose from a variety of new releases and older programmes. Seeing as I was "Up in the Air", I picked it for my first film and was content with the choice.
On-time performance: Leaving on time, we arrived Kuala Lumpur at approximately 8:30pm
Flight frequency: MH122 flies from Sydney to Kuala Lumpur daily |

It was an early but fulfilling morning on Saturday, 13 March as the Detik-detik MH ‘Meet the Judges’ Workshop took place at the Malaysia Airlines Academy.

Indira Nair, MAS’ Senior General Manager, Communications kicked off the day by asking the students: “What is Malaysian Hospitality?” She went on to explain that Malaysian Hospitality (“MH”) can mean different things to people. While Malaysians breathe and live MH, many find that it’s difficult to articulate what MH is. Hence, the reason for Detik-detik MH: to capture MH moments on film in less than three minutes.

One of the judges, George Aveling (CEO of TMI International), shared what Malaysian Hospitality meant to him. It was heart-warming to hear a foreigner’s point of view on Malaysian Hospitality. George had his first glimpse of Malaysian Hospitality when he met his wife’s family for the first time in Malaysia. As language was a barrier between them, her family showed him warm hospitality by preparing wonderful home-cooked meals for him and made him as comfortable as possible. Through their gestures, it struck George that MH could also mean ‘Malaysian Heart’, as a lot of heart and care was given into making him feel welcome in their home.

The writer headed to the first class by Bahir Yeusuff, whose session consisted of exploring areas in developing ideas for films. He noted that most filmmakers find it difficult to draw up inspirations and ideas for their films. “Tell a good, entertaining story; in order to do that, start exploring the possible background and themes, and start building your story from it,” emphasizing that the story is the key for this competition.

Chui Mui’s class proved to be an insightful session as she showed a few examples of short films that were made with little or no budget. “Filmmaking with a limited budget is not necessary a bad thing”, she shared from experience, as it helps one to stay focused on what’s important, and eliminate unnecessary elements in the film. Quoting Amir Muhammad, “if you have no money, you might as well have friends.” She pointed out how friends can help in playing characters and crew, “Network. Get to know people, because they can help you. Use whatever resources you have – good tripod, good camera, good location… these help you save on production costs.”

Seng Tat’s session had his class in stitches with his funny one-liners and entertaining examples of short films. His topic, “Working with actors, non-actors, animals and plants” addresses one of the most vital, yet often taken for granted, aspects in filmmaking. As a filmmaker, Seng Tat pointed out, you define your film; directing is more than just you and the actors – it’s so much more. Having worked with kids for his films, he shared that you can’t direct them; you need to be their friend. He encourages the workshop participants to talk to the kids about how they would say the lines, and how they would act in the scenes. , Allow the kids to change the original dialogues, if they want to, as that allows you to capture their real self on film.
All in all, the students returned home after an afternoon well-spent. |

Light balance, check. Boom mics on standby. Set good to go. Roll camera and ACTION!!!
After the many, many busy months of preparation, Detik-detik MH short film competition launched yesterday in spectacular fashion! Held at the mock-up cabin area at the Malaysia Airlines Academy in Kelana Jaya (where the cabin crew are trained), the launch theme simulated a live television set - spotlights, a backdrop setting, and even a live camera crew!

Hosting the launch was none other than Malaysia Airlines’ very own Ms. Tan Wai Fong (Head of Media Relations), who injected much needed zest into the sleepy after-lunch crowd Playing ‘Oprah’, Wai Fong proceeded to interview judges Ms. Indira Nair (Senior General Manager of Communications; her boss!) as well as renowned filmmakers Ms. Tan Chui Mui, Mr. Liew Seng Tat, and En. Bahir Yeusuff.
The ‘talkshow’ was very engaging, with the judges providing valuable insights on topics such as filmmaking as a career, production and directorial techniques, and their personal beginnings into the industry.

Seng Tat, in particular, was the livewire of the show. His “short films are not only for shorties like me” line really got the crowd tickled. As to what he would be looking for in the competition, he said, “I’ve seen enough art films. I want something lighthearted that will make me laugh.” Chui Mui shared how she uniquely visualizes her film’s ending before scripting her story, “My films can be directionless, but I always know where it will lead to and end.”
With concerns to filmmaking as a career, Bahir assured that there are options aplenty, “These guys started out in short films, but I’m the opposite. I did a feature first and then went to shorts. You can even explore animation, stop motion, or even documentaries.”

In addressing one of the journalist’s questions, Indira explained the rationale behind Detik-detik MH. “We’re familiar with Malaysian Hospitality – but what exactly is it? We want the people to define to it and why not capture its essence on film.”
In closing, the audience were again reminded of the competition website at http://www.mastraveller.com/detikmh, which is where participants can register, download the entry form as well get the latest updates and ask questions about Detik-detik MH.

In looking forward, Bahir summed it best, “Explosions! We want explosions!” As the competition kick-offs, the journey will undoubtedly be an explosive one – full of bright sparks and fireworks! |

This article by Shashank Nigam extracted from http://simpliflying.com/2010/brand-essence-of-malaysia-airlines-experiencing-malaysian-hospitality/
Over the past couple of months, I’ve spent a lot of time in Singapore and Kuala Lumpur, and that resulted in an overdose of branding messages from regional airlines like Singapore Airlines, Malaysia Airlines, AirAsia and Tiger Airways.
I was intrigued in particular by Malaysia Airlines’ “Malaysian Hospitality” campaign – which is a play on the MH code of the airline. Soon enough, I got to experience the “world’s best in-flight service” myself, on Business Class from Kuala Lumpur to Los Angeles (see photos at the bottom of this article). And here’s what I feel is the essence of Malaysian Hospitality – it’s the “human-ness” of flying. Let me explain what I mean.
Malaysian Hospitality – a story of genuine care

It may sound strange, but a lot of airlines that have good service often lack “humanity” in their service. Sometimes, it even becomes robotic – I’m sure you’ve seen robotic smiles plastered on flight attendants. Malaysia Airlines’ service, in contrast, was genuine and very human – one that makes you feel good as a person. Let me share a story.
I opted to have my meal soon after take-off, while the gentleman next to me chose to have it later. I first received some traditional satay (a Malaysian specialty), and then more aromatic dishes. This obviously tempted the person seated next to me and he kept stealing glances at my food. Without him asking for anything, the leading stewardess asked him if he’d like some starters or dessert – he opted for the latter and happily munched on the tiramisu.
Not only was the service genuine, it was pro-active. I’m not saying no other airlines provide such service, just that it’s a rare feat. Moreover, we were all greeted by names, and complete eye-contact was made before we were spoken to – all the basics of providing a personal service.
The omnipresent Malaysian essence – on-board, and in the lounge

Not only was the food very Malaysian – like the satay and the teh tarik (pulled-tea), the products and service were too. The crew pointed not with their fingers, but with their thumb above their fist- a very Malaysian gesture. In the Business Class lounge, there were a variety of local foods available, and local massages too. So even if you’re in-transit, and not getting out of the airport, you can experience glimpses of Malaysian life.
Moreover, I was impressed with the lounge because not only did it have a dedicated Business Center and phone booths for private calls, but also a golf putting area and a children’s playground. I’m not sure how many children frequent the playground, but the other services were certainly desirable.
Room for improvement?
For one, the Boeing 777-200ER aircraft that Malaysia Airlines uses for this flight isn’t the newest. In fact, Singapore Airlines has retired all but two of this type from their fleet. Not only is this a competitive disadvantage, the wear and tear and the older business class product shows. In fact, the new flat-bed by AirAsia X may even prove to be a challenger, given the airline’s competitive fares.
I guess things will improve once the airline gets the new A380s over the next few years. The CEO recently mentioned that it will have a refurbished product, including a Premium Economy class.
Having said that, I think the excellent service and the genuine show of care more than makes up for the not-so-latest product. Overall, it was a pleasure experiencing Malaysian Hospitality, and I’d encourage you to give it a try. |

This article by Chin Wei Zhi & Lim Dao Feng extracted from http://kampungboycitygal.com/2010/02/penang-food-trip-with-malaysia-airlines/

Few months back, MAS flew some of the bloggers up north for a FOOD TRIP. A day trip can’t get any cooler than this – fly to Penang in the morning just to eat a meal or two and fly back in the evening itself.

Pretty air stewardess greeted us with a wide, pretty and an attractive smile.

We were among the first batch of lucky users that get to check in using our mobile devices through MHmobile-flymas.mobi service. I checked in the night before and this was the QR code that I received via sms.

Pretty Iza placing her HP screen under the mobile check-in scanner to get validated. Just check in from your mobile phone to obtain the QR code and you are set to go, as easy as that.

We reached Penang airport in the blink of an eye. It took us only 45 minutes compared to a 4 to 5 hours drive up north. To top if off, MAS hired a tour guide who knows every nook and cranny of Penang island to bring us around. Such bliss!

# Line Clear Nasi Kandar Our first stop was Line Clear Nasi Kandar located in an alley off Penang Road, between two commercial buildings. Contrary to it’s name, the line never clears! Be prepared to queue and wait for your turn.

Aiwei and I shared a plate of nasi kandar with curry chicken, curry mutton, some vege and gravy “campur” ala “banjir” style. After some bites, the spiciness from the curry gravy started to kick in and our eyes got all watery and red and we perspired from head to toe. No joke!

#2 Penang Road Teochew Cendol. From Line Clear, we walked towards Lebuh Keng Kwee, off Penang Road for the most famous cendol stall in Penang. You can have it while standing beside the stall or seated comfortably at Joo Hooi coffee shop located down the road.
#3 Coconut Jelly, Dato Keramat Road.
We were very fortunate to have CK Lam, the famous food blogger from Penang. She brought us to this coconut jelly place at Jalan Dato Keramat. According to her, the outer husk of the coconut is initially removed and then roasted in the oven. After a cooling period, they are then placed in the cooler room. The jelly was formed during the hot and cold process. The jelly was so good! It has a nice jello consistency and a good natural coconut flavour. Perfect for a scorching hot day! Penang Coconut Jelly 201, Jalan Dato Kramat 10150 Penang Tel: 016 440 9049 Email : joezcoco@yahoo.com

#4 Pasembur @ Padang Kota Food Court that comes with a stunning sea view.

Almost every stall in the food court are selling the same identical stuff: Pasembur! We randomly chose a stall and pick our orders. The pasembur was nothing great though.

Thanks to the kind soul from MAS for organizing this. Check out flymas.mobi for no frills ticket booking and checking in.

Aiwei, Rachel & Wilson. Thanks to Wilson for the ride to the airport.

Bonus! #5 Lorong Selamat Char Kuey Teow. Just some old pictures from my previous Penang trip.

Goggles Lady CKT. This is so famous that I need not elaborate further.

#6 Pasar Air Itam Laksa. Overrated. All in all, it was an amateur list/guide to Penang food. Please refer to the pros – Penang Food Blogs for more hor liaos. :p ADVERTORIAL I’m one of those people with “Internet Withdrawal Syndrom”. If you have feelings of loss, frustration and disconnectedness when cut off from the net, then welcome to the club. There are no remedies to it, but I do have something that makes me feel better – reliable broadband connection. Celcom Broadband that offers you the widest coverage (over 71% of Malaysia’s populated areas) at a very affordable price. And the best thing is, Celcom Sale is back and they have a lot of exciting offers on the broadband packages. Check it out! |

This article by Wilson Ng extracted from http://www.placesandfoods.com/2010/02/my-real-26-hours-experience-with-malaysia-airlines.html
This is not an advertorial or paid post. This is my real experience. My flight from Kuala Lumpur to Buenos Aires on Jan 27th took around 26 hours inclusive of 2 stop overs at South Africa. It was my furthest place I travel and the longest flying time I experienced in my life. I flew with Malaysia Airlines MH201 on this trip. It was a very early morning flight, around 1.20 am. Many might not know, only Malaysia Airlines fly direct to Buenos Aires from Southeast Asia. Hence, the flight is usually packed.

I wasn’t worry about the lengthy flight since I had 2 stop overs in South Africa. However, I was having a slight fever before that so it was quite tough for me. Of course, I did visit the doctor before hand, but I was still recovering and stuck on the plane for so long didn’t help much.
The flight from Kuala Lumpur to Johannesburg was pretty relax, we got ourselves the back seats and managed to chat with the hot stewardess. The flight was say 80% full on economy class?

From Johannesburg to Cape Town, it was fun. The chief steward, Mr. Azmi/Azri (sorry I forgot his name) allowed me to go to the business class for me to take pictures. He shared some of his Cape Town experiences and I must not forget the lovely crews that chat with me as well.

With his help, I managed to capture this picture and also many other wonderful pictures of Cape Town, South Africa.

Well, the nightmare started when we flew from Cape Town to Buenos Aires. My fever shot up as I missed one of my medicine session. Thankfully, the MAS crew, Mexican lady Adrianna took care of me. She gave me a tray of ice with towel to keep myself cool throughout the journey. It was very kind of her. And also not forgetting Khairul who made the “teh tarik” for me. This were the crew that make Malaysia Airlines the award winning “Cabin Crew Of The Year”. Without them, I would not have enjoyed my journey, took nice pictures from the business class area and also keeping my fever away. Having fever on board was no fun, trust me on that.
Thank you MAS Crews for your special treatments, you all deserved the Cabin Crew Award! |
